Nebbi it’s located in the South Nile region, it was part of the West Nile districts in 1974 and became the south Nile district in 1980. It borders the districts of Arua in the north, Gulu in the east, Masindi and Lake Albert in the south and Democratic Republic of Congo in the west.
Okoro County was carved out of Nebbi Distict to form Zumbo District in 2009. the district has just taken off with inauguration on th 12th March,2010 – bringing a total 8? In West Nile alone and……………….districts in Uganda.


Climate and Relief;
It lies at an altitudinal range of between 945m and 1,219m above sea level, with rainfall averaging 1,500mm and height temperatures of the modified equatorial climate type.

Population,
479,9000people-251,000female and 228, 9000 male as at Population & Housing Census, 2002; and Uganda Population Projections 2006 (Statistics Department – MoFPED, Box, 13 Entebbe).

Major Towns
Nebbi (administrative headquarters) and Pakwach Town Council. Paidha Town Council (now a commercial town forming part of Zumbo District).

Main languages;
Alur and Jonam Other minor tribes: Lendu, Kebbu and Madi.

Economic activities;
Mainly agriculture with emphasis on; Food crops i.e. cassava, maize, beans sweet potatoes, cowpeas, millet sorghum and simsim. Cash crops i.e. coffee, cotton and sugarcane. Fruits and vegetables i.e. tomatoes, mangoes, pawpaw, avocado, oranges, lime onions and cabbages
Fishing mainly on Lake Albert and Albert Nile.

Education services (Nebbi & Zombo)
Primary schools; 243-211 government-aided, 3 private, 27community and 2 not reported. Primary School Enrollment: 149,436-80392 male and 69044 female. Teachers; 2299-10-807 male, 491female and1 not reported.
Secondary school enrollment: 4807-3220 male and 1587 females. Teachers: 517-430 male and 87 female.
Post secondary school; 1 technical institution, 1 teacher training college, 1 Business College (Pakwach UCC affiliated to MUBS). Enrollment in private and community secondary schools. Private; 2175-1525 male and 650 female. Community; 1618-1100 male and518 female.

Health services (Nebbi & Zombo)
Government-18 dispensaries(II),11 health centers(III), 1 health(IV) sub-district,1 hospital.Private/NGO-5 dispensaries,25 clinics, 7 health centers(III) (county),2 hospitals. District hospital-Nebbi hospital with 108 beds, Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau-Angal hospital with 234 beds and Nyapea hospital with 121 beds

Tourist Attraction;
The district doesn’t have a strong tourism base although the River Nile is a potential attraction. But is is near MFNP (……KM). other attractions include: Lake Albert, Emin Pasha Point (Wadelai); Lendu Forest (Zeu); Cultural sites – Wadi-ley (point of separation between Nyipir/Nyabongo – Pakwach Bridge); Loj-Judongo – rest place for Nyipir in Kucwiny Sub county; Winam-the cultural seat of the Alur Kingdom.
